Hostile Social Media Sells, Don’t Get Sucked In. Spread More Love in Your Creative Writing as I do
Social media platforms like Gab, Trump’s lie-filled Truth Social and other hate-promoting phlegm machines are on the rise.
It’s our time to dwarf their offence with positive energy and love. We must win the day.
You’ve got to appreciate CNN for its high broadcast value, accurate reporting and ability to scare the hell out of you with the dire state of the planet or make you feel angry towards dumb humans.
It’s addictive. I find myself scrolling through news Apps almost hourly, jonesing for info on dictators, oppressors, republicans, bible thumpers, and corrupt leaders. I love watching them get knocked down by uprisings from their people, sanctions and eventual economic collapse. — and you know it’s coming! — Anything to stick it to evil is my preferred ending.
Like a ‘rubber-neck’ driver who creeps through rush hour traffic needing to gawk at a head-on collision hoping to get a glimpse of a mangled body or two — We all do it.
Face it, anger and fear sell and get the techno-oligarchs the clicks they need to flog shit and make billions.
Sadly, a story’s less conflictual, more positive elements are harder to come across. Is it because publishers know feel-good sound bites don’t elicit the adrenalin rush and sense of danger our Amygdala brain craves?
Nevertheless, the Amygdala plays a decisive role in why we display emotions. We are primates and have a propensity to either hunt or be hunted. — -Yes, that’s you and me, my Neandertal-related friend.
Here is my dilemma as a writer and creative storyteller.
It’s well-known that the more fear-based, negative, divisive and angry I get in my videography and writing, the more popular I’ll be.
I want an alternative!
So if our gig economy, lively hood, depends on ‘click-throughs’ to pay the rent, how do we balance a feel-good voice (less traffic) with a; fuck the world, punch in the face, the sky is falling perspective that keeps people hooked?
The world needs more love.
To counter this negativity, we need more harmony, positive energy, and love in the blogosphere. Of course, it’s essential to condemn, criticize, and call out online dysfunction, especially hate speech.
There should be primarily positive elements to the stories we craft, highlighting the upside of humanity. — to heal our troubled existence.
In the long run, positive perspectives will attract good energy into your life much more than hate speech ever could. — and you’ll feel better about your work, too.
People need ‘feel-good’ attitudes to counter their daily frustrations.
As the push for alternative social media sites continues, CNN’s Jake Tapper talks about his experience joining the far-right social network Gab, which advertises free speech, individual liberty, and the free flow of information online. (excuse me while I barf across the screen at that one)
What Trapper said he saw was shocking. I, too, went into Gab and saw a barrage of hate speech perpetuated by a following of lost, divisive souls.
Good journalism gives us accountability, transparency, and an opportunity to discuss the pressing issues of the day—whether they are good, bad, or indifferent. It’s a fundamental pillar of a healthy democracy.
So I appreciate Jake calling out nutbars like Kanye West in his attempt to buy the Social Platform Parler in what his inbred misfits call a ‘bold stance’ against censorship.’
I’ll call bullshit on misguided!! Social media platforms like Gab, Trump’s lie-filled Truth Social Network and other hate-promoting phlegm machines. It’s our time to dwarf their offence with more positive energy and love in our work. ~ Daniel-Ibrahim
Why is that? These walking dead are not the ones that will save the planet or raise living standards. Instead, fear, anger, and hatred sell and bind the dysfunctional sociopaths that walk among us, and we’ll all be doomed.
Batten down the hatches and challenge the nasty people. But in doing so, would that not render us just as amoeba-like as them with our behaviour? — I ask.
Hate is what they and the evil want, so don’t get sucked in! Also, pay attention to what you repost and share on social media. — stop giving negativity a platform.
Now, that’s easier said than done. After all, we are primates. And yea, I use sarcasm and rough language in my posts, but my insults are balanced, and I typically end on a positive note — eh!
It’s my life, and I’ll live it on my terms.
I’m blessed enough to do what I want, when I want, with whom I want, the way I want, for the reasons I want, as long as I do so with love and integrity.
That manifesto sounds like a plan for pure freedom but notes two key ingredients: love and integrity.
I don’t get to impose my freedom of speech at your expense or the expense of others. Free speech does not give anyone the right or privilege to hurt, dominate or oppress others. Otherwise, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK” (Trump).
The freedom to hunt others down (through speech or otherwise) only renders us susceptible to being hunted ourselves. — Let that sink in for a moment as I toss a Molotov cocktail through your living room window and burn your family because you’re different. (someone said)
It’s easy to complain in our writings about the world’s shortcomings and blame others for our frustrations. — stop it!
Write more about what’s good with humanity while simultaneously challenging the negativity through skillful wordsmithing — the art of telling a story that inspires, heals and counters negativity.
What goes around comes around, baby, but I’m not talking about an eye for an eye or meeting hate with more hate. So, challenge and debate with passion but maintain a positive aura.
Remember, as history has revealed many times, if KARMA, through revolutions and economic collapse, eventually comes knocking for the big boys, then that same karma may come knocking for you but on a smaller scale. So please don’t get caught in the crossfire of bad luck jonesing for an adrenaline fix of hate, my furry friend.
By the way, I don’t hate zombies, angry dumb humans, dictators, dysfunctional sociopaths, oppressors, republicans, bible thumpers, corrupt leaders, rubberneck drivers, techno-oligarchs, lost souls, nutbars or inbred misfits. — honestly hate is too powerful a word 🙂
I use those labels to infuse a controlled degree of wit without sincere despise. I pity their misguided perspectives and remain hopeful that one day hate will shift them to see the light and evolve into kinder beings.
I could have toned down my use of sarcasm in this piece to describe others who think differently than me, but how else would I make my point in such a way you’d enjoy….eh?
Hate-promoting social media phlegm machines will rise and fall and rise again. So what will you do again to dwarf their offence to win the day?
What if you…
Be as respectful as you reasonably can when you express yourself! Aim to highlight good vibes and temper aggressive fear-based posturing.
The first few drafts of this piece were far more foul-mouthed and negative. However, I am willing (and still need ) to evolve further; are you?
Lots of love
