Hostile Social Media Sells, Don’t Get Sucked In. Spread More Love in Your Creative Writing as I do
Spread Love, Not Hate: The Power of Positive Creativity
Hey, my creatives!
I’ve been reflecting on something increasingly hard to ignore: the rise of hostility on social media. It’s easy to get caught in this vortex of negativity, fear, and division, especially when these platforms thrive on spreading such messages. But we can combat this with love and positivity through our creative work.
Social media can be a double-edged sword. While free speech is a fundamental right, it shouldn’t harm or mislead others. We must be mindful of what we share and resist the pull of divisive rhetoric. It’s like the urge to rubberneck at a crash site—we must look away from the negativity and focus on healing and understanding instead.
Too often, I find myself anxiously scrolling news feeds, wondering what shocking behaviour a dictator, republican, bible thumper, corrupt leader or oligarch has done to dismantle society’s safeguards. I yearn for justice through an uprising, sanction or political collapse. — and you know it’s coming!
Like a ‘rubber-neck’ driver who creeps through rush hour traffic needing to gawk at a head-on collision, I, too, hope to get a glimpse of a mangled advesary.
Face it, anger and fear, polarization and hate sell the clicks that techno-oligarchs need to flog their shit and make billions.
Platforms know that contentious sound bites elicit the adrenalin rush and sense of danger we crave. The primitive amygdala brain plays a decisive role in why we display emotions. As primates, do we have an innate desire to hunt or be hunted? — Yes, that’s you and me, my Neandertal-related buddy.
As the push for alternative social media sites continues, I recall CNN’s Jake Tapper talking about his experience joining the far-right social network Gab, which advertises free speech, individual liberty, and the free flow of information online. (excuse me while I barf across the screen at that one.
What Trapper said he saw was shocking. I, too, went into Gab and saw a barrage of hate speech perpetuated by a following of lost, divisive, and mostly pathetic American souls.
Good journalism gives us accountability, transparency, and an opportunity to discuss the day’s pressing issues—good, bad, or indifferent. It’s a fundamental part of a healthy democracy. So I appreciate Jake calling out nut-bars like Kanye West in his attempt to buy the Social Platform Parler in what his inbred misfits call a ‘bold stance’ against censorship.’
I’ll call bullshit on misguided!! Social media platforms like Gab, Trump’s lie-filled Truth Social Network and Führer Musks ’X’ hate-promoting phlegm machines.
It’s our time to dwarf their offence with more positive energy and love in our work.
Why is that? Well, for starters, these walking dead are not the ones that will save the planet or raise our living standards. Instead, their fear, anger, and hatred bind the dysfunctional sociopaths that walk among us-bringing doom if we let them.
Batten down the hatches and challenge the nasty people. But in doing so, would that not render us just as amoeba-like as them with our behaviour? — I ask.
So if our gig economy, livelihood, depends on traffic to pay the rent, how do we generate a feel-good voice when what sells more is a; fuck the world, punch you in the face, the sky is falling perspective that hooks people?
The world needs your love and respect.
The world needs more harmony, positive energy, and love in the blogosphere to counter the rancid discourse.
In the long run, positive perspectives will attract good energy into your life much more than hate speech ever could. — and you’ll feel better about your work.
It’s time for us to counteract this negativity with positive energy and loving content. While American networks like CNN provide accurate reporting, their negative news can overwhelm even the most grounded individual.
In a way, I wish they’d show more positive content that inspires and heals, balancing critical discussions with a positive outlook. But that’s not the nature of media. My Facebook feeds are riddled with soundbites and commentary that scream, “Run or fight.”
Instead, I have chosen to flood my digital landscape with kindness, creativity, and uplifting messages of live, love, learn.
Let’s celebrate what unites us instead of focusing on what divides us. Share your stories, art, and ideas that bring joy and hope to others.
Use your platform—no matter how big or small—to inspire change and foster understanding. Remember, positive energy is contagious!
Together, we can create an online world where love triumphs over hate and compassion conquers fear. Let’s be the change-makers, the love-spreaders, and the creative souls that light up the social media landscape with creativity and inspiration.
So, next time you scroll through your feed, I challenge you to post something creative that uplifts and inspires. In the end, it’s the connections we make and the love we share that matter most.
Positive perspectives attract positive energy. While it’s tempting to criticize, we should aim for constructive dialogue. Ultimately, love and integrity should guide our actions and words to create a better world.
I’m blessed enough to do what I want, when I want, with whom I wish to, the way I want, for the reasons I want, as long as I do so with love and integrity.
That manifesto sounds like a plan for pure freedom but notes two key ingredients: love and integrity.
I don’t get to impose my freedom of speech at your expense or the expense of others. Free speech does not give anyone the right or privilege to hurt, dominate or oppress others. Otherwise, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK” (Trump).
The freedom to hunt others down (through speech or otherwise) only renders us susceptible to being hunted ourselves. — Let that sink in for a moment as I toss a Molotov cocktail through your living room window and burn your family because you’re different. (someone said)
It’s easy to complain in our writings about the world’s shortcomings and blame others for our frustrations. — stop it!
Write more about what’s good with humanity while simultaneously challenging the negativity through skillful wordsmithing — the art of telling a story that inspires, heals, and counters hatred.
Remember, as history has revealed many times, if KARMA, through revolutions and economic collapse, eventually comes knocking for the big boys, then that same KARMA may come knocking for you but on a smaller scale. So please don’t get caught in the crossfire of bad luck jonesing for an adrenaline fix of hate, my furry friend.
By the way, I don’t hate zombies, angry dumb humans, dictators, dysfunctional sociopaths, oppressors, republicans, bible thumpers, corrupt leaders, rubberneck drivers, techno-oligarchs, lost souls, nut-bars or inbred misfits. Honestly, hate is too powerful a word
I use those labels to infuse a controlled degree of wit without sincere despise. I pity their misguided perspectives and remain hopeful that one day, hate will shift them to see the light and evolve into kinder beings.
I could have toned down my use of sarcasm in this piece to describe others who think differently than me, but how else would I have made my point in a way you’d enjoy….?
Together, we can create an online world where positivity prevails over negativity and compassion conquers fear. Let’s be the change-makers, love-spreaders, and creative souls that light up the social media landscape with brilliant, inspiring content.
So the next time you scroll through your feed, challenge yourself to post something that spreads love and joy. Remember, positive perspectives attract good energy, and the love we share genuinely matters.

Challenge Yourself and Others

Avoid Negativity
Avoid engaging in or spreading harmful content that harms others or promotes division.
In the digital realm where shadows dance,
And negativity finds its chance,
A call to arms, a gentle plea,
To spread more love creatively.
Platforms built on fear and spite,
Seek to dim the world’s bright light.
But in this space, let’s choose to write,
Words that lift, that unite.
Oh, rubberneck drivers on the social lane,
Slow down, look up, let’s ease the strain.
For in each post, a seed is sown—
Will it bring love, or cast a stone?
Anger, fear, may sell the clicks,
But love and joy are the lasting fix.
So, my friends, in every line,
Let compassion and truth intertwine.
Share a tale that heals and mends,
A message where division ends.
Inspire with art that lights the way,
Turn darkened nights to brighter days.
Celebrate the ties that bind,
Seek the good in humankind.
Through every word, in every deed,
Plant the love that others need.
Guide your posts with gentle grace,
Let integrity take its place.
For each thought shared, a powerful prayer,
To build a world that’s kind and fair.
As social media’s tides ebb and flow,
Let’s be the change the world should know.
With positive words, let’s break the chain,
And bring the world to love again.
In the whirlwind of the digital age,
Let love and hope be all the rage.
For in this vast and virtual land,
Together, we can make a stand.
